New Delhi : Four men, wearing traffic police uniforms, robbed a businessman of Rs.22 lakh (Rs.2.2 million) in the national capital Wednesday, police said.
“The incident took place around 11.45 a.m. in Keshavpuram area. The victim, Akshay Aggarwal, was going in his car to a bank to deposit Rs.2.2 million in cash when two people waylaid him,” a senior police officer said.
“Aggarwal told us that when he stepped out, two others appeared and at gunpoint snatched from him the bag containing the cash. The four men then fled from the spot,” the officer added.
The victim, a resident of Pashchim Vihar area, trades in Chinese mobile phones.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) N.S. Bundela said: “The victim told us that he stopped his car thinking that the two, who waylaid him, were traffic police personnel. But he doesn’t remember whether the robbers were wearing blue trousers and white shirts, had any badge, or had stars on their shoulder straps.”
