Baghdad: Gunmen shot dead five workers of a mill and wounded four in Mahmoudiyah town, near Baghdad, Sunday while police found 17 unidentified bodies from different parts of the capital.
“Early in the morning, unknown armed men stormed the al-Ahram flour factory in Mahmoudiyah and opened fire at some workers, killing five and wounding four others,” the source said.
Separately, the source said police patrols collected 17 unidentified bodies during the past 24 hours in different parts of the capital.
The bullet-riddled bodies were bound, blindfolded, showing signs of torture, he added.
Violence persists in Baghdad despite the presence of tens of thousands of US and Iraqi soldiers across the capital in a major security crackdown aimed at curbing insurgency and sectarian violence in the war-torn country.
