No coalition government, says Karzai’s main rival

By IANS,

Kabul : Incumbent president Hamid Karzai’s main rival Abdullah Abdullah Wednesday ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition government, saying this is not the solution to the country’s problems, Xinhua reported.

“The way for the solution of the problem of the country is not formation of coalition government,” he told newspersons at his first press conference after the election runoff was announced.

Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) set Nov 7 as the date for the second round between the top candidates Hamid Karzai and his former foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah.

“I want peace, security and dignity for the people of Afghanistan and this would be achieved through a free and fair voting in the second round of the election,” Abdullah stressed.
