Rajpura: A man allegedly tried to abduct two excise officers when he was being asked for a toll tax at a check post in this Punjab town, police said Sunday.
The driver of a Swift car sped away, along with two Excise and Taxation officials, to escape paying tax at the toll barrier in Patiala’s Rajpura, around 35 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
“We have got a written complaint from the excise and taxation officer who had deployed a special check-post, with five-six officials, near the toll barrier in this town Saturday night. We have registered a case against the car driver,” Manmohan Kumar Sharma, deputy superintendent of police, told IANS.
The officials signalled a car to stop at the post and while the officials were talking to the driver, he forcibly pushed two of them in his car and fled, the police officer said.
“At some distance, the driver lost the balance and rammed his car into a tree,” he said.
Other officials reached the accident spot and took its occupants to a hospital.
“Till now we have got the version of only one party. We would also record the statement of the driver of the car, only after that the whole case will become clear before us,” district police chief R.S. Khatra told IANS.
