Beijing : Chinese police have fined 148,000 people for driving while drunk as part of a nationwide crackdown launched Aug 15, officials said.
Some 20,000 drunk drivers were put under detention, while 131,000 driving licences were suspended, the public security ministry said Wednesday.
The Chinese police initially launched a two-month nationwide crackdown following a series of fatal traffic accidents caused by drunk driving. The campaign was extended till the year-end on Oct 19, Xinhua reported.
