Lucknow : The five-year-old daughter of an engineer in a government department, who was kidnapped late Thursday night from the Indiranagar area here, was safely rescued by the police from Sultanpur district Friday afternoon, officials said.

Shiza, daughter of Afzal Ahmed Ansari, an engineer of the Awas Vikas Parishad, was playing outside her house with her elder sister Fiza when she went missing.

“The parents lodged a complaint suspecting a neighbour, Nagma, and her brother Rehan, who came to meet them Thursday night. After the incident both of them went missing and a police team was following them since then,” Superintendent of Police (Trans-Gomti) Paresh Pandey told IANS.

Soon after Shiza went missing, Ansari received a call, demanding a ransom of Rs.35 lakh (Rs.3.5 million) for his daughter’s release, he added.

“Through surveillance, we got the location of the kidnappers in the Para village of Sultanpur district and a police team was sent instantly. We have arrested five people Friday,” Pandey said.

The arrested were identified as Nagma, Rehan, Shaboo, Zishaan and Kaleem.

“A cash reward of Rs.20,000 and a certificate of merit to every member of the police team has been announced for solving the case and safely rescuing the child,” Additional Director General of Police (law and order) A.K.Jain told media persons Friday.
