New Delhi : Both houses of parliament were Monday adjourned sine die, brining down the curtain on a stormy monsoon session four days ahead of schedule, amid opposition protests to demand a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on the India-US nuclear deal.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die as the opposition showed no signs of relenting on its demand. The ruckus created by opposition MPs to support their demand has meant that hardly any business was transacted in parliament in the last one week.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari made the formal adjournment announcement in the upper house as members of the opposition led by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) once again shouted slogans demanding a JPC to study the implications of the nuclear deal.

The monsoon session of parliament was originally scheduled to conclude Sep 14.
