Kolkata : Security has been stepped up across West Bengal Wednesday ahead of the first anniversary of the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai.
“We beefed up our vigilance mechanism across the state and increased patrolling at all major installations,” state Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha told IANS.
“We’ve already carried out a sensitisation drive. But we have not received any intelligence input from any of the central security agencies,” he added.
He, however, declined to divulge details of the security initiatives being taken.
According to police sources, intense checking is being carried out at Howrah and Sealdah railway stations – two major railheads of eastern India. Pill-boxes have also been put up at the entrance of luxury hotels in the city.
“We’re carrying out our regular security drive at all railways stations. We have put our forces on alert keeping in mind the anniversary of 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai last year,” said state Additional Director General of Police (Railways) Dilip Mitra.
Security has also been stepped up in and around Metro railway stations, he said.
