At a joint news conference in Ankara following his talk with visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, Babacan said, “We demanded a quick explanation from Israel,” adding that “violation of airspace by Israeli planes is unacceptable.”

He said fuel tanks have been found in Turkey near its border with Syria that were allegedly dropped by Israeli aircraft.

Al-Muallem, who arrived here late Sunday for a sudden visit to Turkey, also lashed out at the Jewish state, saying, “It was an intentional and hostile act.”

The Syrian top diplomat noted that Israeli aircraft attacked on and bombed Syria and some of them dropped their fuel tanks on Syrian lands.

Babacan said Turkey is launching the necessary initiatives and a full investigation into the event.

“Turkey expressed its uneasiness in its earlier statements and stressed that such developments would cause additional tensions in the region,” Babacan underlined.

In addition, he urged everyone to act with restraint, otherwise”tensions would further escalate and efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the region are hampered.”
