Court gives protection to married couple

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Friday gave protection to a 19-year-old girl and her much older husband who had married against the wishes of their families.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Rachna (name changed) seeking protection from her family members after she married Ramdhan, 47.

“I have married Ramdhan of my own free will and without any influence and coercion, but I fear that my husband could be eliminated by my family members,” Rachna stated in her petition.

Ramdhan is a teacher in a college in Madhya Pradesh.

Justice Kailash Gambhir directed Delhi Police not to put the couple to any harassment and also asked Ramdhan to furnish the marriage certificate on Dec 11, the next date of hearing.

The court directed the couple to be present in the court on that date.

According to the prosecution, Ramdhan was already married and has children from his first wife, so his marriage to Rachna is null.

Denying these claims, Rachna said that Ramdhan was working as a teacher in a college but after their marriage he had resigned the job and they were now living together in the capital.

“Let the necessary affidavits be filed by Ramdhan regarding his resignation from the teaching job,” the court said.
