Maoists blast offices of Jharkhand poll nominees

Ranchi : Maoist rebels blasted offices of three candidates in the ongoing assembly polls, including a former leftist radical in the fray, in Palamau district of Jharkhand, police said Thursday.

Maoists set on fire posters and banners of the three candidates and later bombed their make-shift offices in Manatu area of the district, Shahsinath Jha, deputy inspector general (Palamau) told IANS.

He said the office of Ranjan Yadav, a former Maoist contesting from jail, was among those attacked.

The banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called for a boycott of the assembly polls.

The rebels have threatened to kill all former Maoists contesting the polls.

The five-phased Jharkhand assembly polls end Dec 18 and the counting of votes will take place Dec 23.
