Kochi: KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala is raising allegations against Madani and wife aiming at unifying the Hindu votes in the upcoming elections to local self-government institutes, accused Poonthura Siraj, working chairman of the People’s Democratic Party. No investigating agency had said that there was evidence against Madani. He asked what evidence Chennithala had against them. Mr Siraj was speaking at a press conference in Alappuzha.
He said that nobody needed hope that Madani and wife Soofiya could be expelled from the state. Chennithala was spreading rumours against Madani keeping the Liberhan Commission report under his arms. He began his attacks since Madani’s sharing of stage with CPI (M) State general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan during the election campaigns. Such outlooks should be changed. Let the case go in its own way. Whoever has done wrong will have to face the consequences. But that doesn’t allow anyone to hunt Madani and wife and make the society misunderstand. If the government has any evidence against Soofiya, it should present it before the public society, he added.
Soofiya Madani is the wife of PDP chairman Abdunnasir Madani and the 10th accused in the Kalamassery bus-burning case in which a Tamil Nadu state bus was burned in September 2005. The prime accused in the case is Thadiyantavide Naseer who is also the prime accused in the Bangalore blasts. The police have reportedly got evidence against Soofiya in the case from Naseer who is now in the custody of the Karnataka police. Naseer is also the third accused in the Kerala-Kashmir terror case and is reported to be the South Indian commander of the Pakisthan-based Lashkar e Toiba.
The leaders of the Congress and other opposition parties have been talking aginst Soofiya since her naming in the case. The media also presented her as a terrorist even though she is only accused in a bus-burning case in the state in which buses are burnt during protests against the government. However, Madani and Soofiya have vowed to abide by the law and to fight the legal recourse to prove her innocence.
