Shabir Hussain Wani wins Young Scientist Award

Kochi: Dr Shabir Hussain Wani has won the Young Scientist Award instituted by the Society for the Promotion of the Plant Science Research of the Jaipur National University. The Award was presented to Dr Shabir at the silver jubilee meet of the Society held at the University on December 2 reportedly for his performance in his PhD as well the papers published and presentations done by him.

Dr Shabir is a research associate in the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH – under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research) in Srinagar. He has reportedly presented his PhD work – ‘Introduction of genes for drought and salinity into rice through particle bombardment’- in an international and two national symposia.

Dr Shabir is one of the four children of businessman Sana Ullah Wani and hails from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Gulzar Singh Sanghera of the same department also has won the award along with Shabir.
