New Delhi: A central government employee was arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping a 21-year-old domestic help in his house in south Delhi, police said.
Rajinder Yadav, who works as Hindi translator in the culture ministry, was arrested from the Inter-State Bus Terminal in Sarai Kale Khan when he was trying to flee the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said.
Police said Yadav raped the girl Tuesday evening at his home in Netaji Nagar government officers’ colony. His wife was not present in the house as she had gone to visit her parents.
The crime was exposed when the victim approached the Sarojini Nagar police station Wednesday morning.
“She said Yadav called her on the pretext of cleaning utensils. And then he caught hold of her and forcibly took her to the bedroom. He threatened that he will lodge a complaint of theft against her and get her killed,” a police official said.
“She said the accused allowed her to go home at about 8.30 p.m. She later narrated the incident to her husband,” the official added.
Police said the victim was taken to a government hospital where doctors confirmed rape on her.
