Soon after the Rashtrapati Bhavan made the announcement Sunday, Narasimhan told IANS that he would be sworn in Monday.

“I will be taking charge tomorrow (Monday),” Narasimhan said. “I will be sworn in by the chief justice (of the Andhra Pradesh High Court).”

Tiwari, 86, resigned Saturday citing health grounds after he was linked to a sex scandal. Tiwari has denied the charge.

Narasimhan, a former Intelligence Bureau chief, will also look after Andhra Pradesh until Tiwari’s successor is named.

“The president has accepted the resignation of Tiwari and has appointed Narasimhan to discharge the functions of the governor of Andhra Pradesh in addition to his own duties until regular arrangements for the office of the governor of Andhra Pradesh are made,” said the statement.

Tiwari, who was appointed the Andhra Pradesh governor Aug 19, 2007, quit Saturday after a Telugu news channel showed pictures of a man purported to be him in bed with three women.

With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi furious over the allegations, an embarrassed Tiwari put in his papers.
