Attack on tourist bus: Police solves case, arrests 4 LeT militants

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have solved the grenade attack on a tourist bus – which left three persons dead and number of others injured in the month of July – by arresting four LeT militants.

An official spokesman said that the special team of the police constituted to investigate the attack on tourist bus zeroed in on four Lashker cadres, who were directly responsible for carrying out the attack.

Terming the arrest of the militants as a major success, sources said that the accused are also involved in another attack in the month of August.

The arrested persons have been identified as Tariq Ahmad son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Beig pora, Awantipora, Parvaiz Ahmad Lone son of Bashir Ahmad Lone of Panzgam, Awantipora, Liyaqat-ul-Islam Lone son of Mohammad Sultan Lone of Panzgam and Ummar Wani son of Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, resident of Awantipora. Three Chinese hand grenades have been recovered from their possession, the spokesman added.

He told News Agency of Kashmir that the accused were working under the then district Commander LeT Shopian, Abdul Hai alias Khubaid alias Saad, who was eliminated in an encounter in South Kashmir.

“It was under his direction that these four persons lobbed a grenade on a tourist vehicle at Chursoo, Awantipora on July 30 leading to the death of a woman and her two kids and injuries to four others.

The accused are also believed to have carried out another attack on August 5 targeting a tourist vehicle at Awantipora bus stand which missed its intended target and exploded causing injuries to seven pedestrians.
