New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday said her government was planning to give cash instead of rations to people living below poverty line (BPL).

“The government is seriously considering to provide cash for ration instead of providing ration to the BPL cardholders. This would help the common man to get rations from anywhere they wish. This would also help to reduce black-marketing and harassment to the cardholders,” Dikshit said on the sidelines of a function here.

She assured that her government was taking all major steps to bring down the prices of essential commodities.

“The prime minister has called a meeting with the chief ministers of the states Jan 27 to discuss and work out on a comprehensive plan to mitigate the price rise problems,” she said.
