Lucknow : Shahzad Ahmad alias Pappu, an Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist who was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district for his involvement in the September 2008 serial bomb blasts in Delhi, had planned terror strikes in Madhya Pradesh and at educational institutions in parts of the country, an official said Tuesday.
The terrorist was arrested Monday.
“Shahzad had planned to carry out blasts in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district,” Additional Director General (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters here.
“He (Shahzad) had also planned to carry out explosions in educational institutes, particularly those involved in technical education. According to the terrorist, as per the plans the blasts were to be carried out while the counselling process for admission was underway at the institutes.”
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also learnt that Shahzad’s seniors had promised to make him “chief of the IM junior brigade”.
“Shahzad has also revealed that IM had plans to send boys in batches of two illegally to foreign countries, where they would be trained in carrying out terror activities,” said Lal.
“As of now, we cannot name the countries where the boys were to be sent,” he added.
