Tegucigalpa : Honduran jouralist Karol Cabrera, who hosts opinion programmes on radio and television, was wounded in an attack in which her driver was slain, police said.
“They tried to kill journalist Karol Cabrera, she is badly wounded,” police spokesman Francisco Murillo told reporters.
Cabrera was apparently headed home Monday night when she was intercepted by armed men on a motorcycle who shot at her, according to the police report.
She is said to be in stable condition at Hospital Escuela in Tegucigalpa.
Cabrera’s 16-year-old daughter was killed by gunmen Dec 15.
Catherine Nicolle Rodriguez, who was eight months pregnant, was riding in a vehicle with several other people when the attack occurred. Her baby survived the shooting.
Cabrera, who in the last seven months has worked for state-run Channel 8 television, also hosts a musical show on another TV network and a political talk show on a Tegucigalpa radio station.
On repeated occasions Cabrera has reported death threats because of her programmes.
She joined Channel 8 after the June 2009 military coup that ousted President Mel Zelaya. The outlet’s editorial line was in favour of the de facto regime that took power after the putsch.
