Jhagadia (Gujarat) : Lanxess, the specialty chemicals company with sales of $8.97 billion worldwide, started its rubber chemicals plant here Wednesday.
This marks the first phase of construction at its new site after being relocated from Thane in Maharashtra.
“The Jhagadia site will become Lanxess’ largest production site in India. It will highlight our long-term commitment to the growing domestic market as well as our group’s BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) strategy,” said Luis Lopez-Remon, Global Head of the Rubber Chemicals business unit
“With the plant, the company stands out as the only western company to be manufacturing rubber chemicals in India,” he said.
The company develops, manufactures and markets plastics, rubber and specialty chemicals.
Currently employing around 14,600 employees in 23 countries, the company is represented at 43 production sites worldwide.
Lanxess is investing about $68.14 million at the 13 hectare Jhagadia site, which will also include a new ion exchange resins plant.
The ion exchange resins plant will manufacture products for industrial remove waste water treatment, for the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, for food production and for power generation.
