Hyderabad: Hyderabad is crazy for cricket, but switching off their TV this evening when IPL match is on, a sea of Muslims is right now at the sprawling campus of Darus Salaam, the headquarters of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen. To show their unity and vow to launch a movement on the issue of Muslim reservation. Very recently Andhra Pradesh High Court has struck down the 4% reservation to Muslims in the state.
Live stream:
The conference, under the banner of Muslim Muttahida Majlise Amal, began at 7 pm and is still going on. Muslim leaders representing the entire community are announcing their united movement for reservation. Sunnis, Shias, Barelvis all are speaking in the same voice – they will not sit until the 4% reservation is restored in the state.
Maulana Syed Qabool Pasha, president, Majlise Ulema Deccan, said Muslims must take a united stand on the issue as politicians and political parties have just exploited them.
Maulana Syed Tariq Raza Abidi said it was not long when Muslims ruled Hyderabad. Today in the same city they are begging for reservation.
Mufti Ghayasuddin Rahmani Qasimi, president, Jamiat Ulema Hind, said that the community now should come out and move from just putting demand. We want our rights and we will have to take them anyhow, he said.
The community sacrificed for Independence, but what got in return – 60 years of communal violence, destruction of their life and property. We have capability to live without reservation, but the last 60 years of atrocities have broken us and pushed us behind in every field. So reservation is must to uplift the community. He called upon the gathering of more than 20 thousand to extend their support to Muslim Muttahida Majlise Amal on the issue.
Dozens of leaders including Muslim MPs who have come from Delhi are yet to address the gathering.
