Azamgarh: A board of Medical Practitioners, in particular Surgeons, of Azamgarh led by AWMELA President Dr. Javed Akhtar, renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, held a press conference following TwoCircles.net breaking news about the post-mortem report of Batla House encounter victims and demanded a fair probe into the shootout, saying the conclusion of the autopsy report has blasted the police version about the incident.
Dr. Javed Akhtar told that this belated post-mortem report which has been released after persistent effort of Mr. Afroz Alam Sahil, a student of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, confirms the observation of relatives and other well wishers who had given bath and ablution to the bodies of Atif and Sajid. They have clearly seen injury marks/abrasion etc on the bodies that could only be the result of brutal torture prior to shooting at point blank range. Dr. Akhtar termed the Batla House Encounter – a fake encounter and cited the impossibility of five bullet marks on Sajid’s head (where bullets traveled downward) in a genuine encounter. This could only be a possibility in intermittent pointblank firing on the head of a crouching person.
Dr Akhtar also ridiculed the ever-changing Police version vis-à-vis fatal injury of Inspector Sharma. The P.M. report clearly indicates sustained bullet wounds in abdomen and shoulder of Inspector Sharma – a result of cross firing/stray bullets. Dr. Akhtar demanded an impartial probe in the whole tragic episode. He emphasized the necessity of review of legal cases in the light of this report and considered a speedy disposal of cases necessary for communal amity.
He also mentioned bomb blasts in Sankat Mochan temple, Varanasi and in the Courts of U.P. and wondered as to why Batla House accused has been associated with those bomb blasts for which other so-called terrorists were either killed or arrested. Accused for these previous bomb blasts are still languishing in U.P. jails. He said that a vision of India as Superpower is not possible without taking along all the communities and suggested shoulder-to-shoulder working of all and sundry, in particular Hindus and Muslims.
Apart from AWMELA members Dr. Javed Akhtar, Dr. Fakhre Alam, Dr. Amir Alam (surgeon) and Dr. Kamaluddin other Doctors present included Dr. Zorar Ahmad, Dr. Shishir Jaiswal (neuro surgeon), Dr. Mohammad Khalid, Dr. Shahabuddin, Dr. Nadim (orthopedic surgeon) etc.
To a specific question from the Press Dr. Javed Akhtar briefed about his meeting with Mr. Verappa Moily (Law Minister) and Mr. Chidambaram (Home Minister) that was arranged by Mr. Digvijay Singh. Dr. Akhtar told about the sympathetic hearing of grievances of the community by the Ministers and their assurance (law of the land permitting) for clubbing of all cases in a single court in Delhi.
