New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Monday dismissed a plea seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into former union minister Shashi Tharoor’s alleged stake in the Kochi IPL franchisee.
Dismissing the petition, a bench headed by acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur said: “There is no merit in this case.”
The petitioner, advocate Ajay Agarawal, alleged that the former minister of state for external affairs, who resigned from his post Sunday in wake of the growing Indian Premier League (IPL) controversy, had used his official position to get sweat equity of around Rs.70 crore for his friend Sunanda Pushkar.
The controversy rose when IPL commissioner Lalit Modi recently disclosed names of the free equity holders, including Pushkar, of Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) consortium, which bought the Kochi franchise for $333.33 million (approximately Rs.1,533 crore).
