Dhaka : Flood toll in Bangladesh rose to 1,071 till Wednesday since late July, as 15 more deaths from flood-related incidents were reported across the country.
According to the ministry of food and disaster management, the ravaging floods have destroyed 81,321 houses and damaged 10,3,799. More than 13.7 million people in 46 out of the country’s 64 districts have been affected.
The floods have damaged crops on some 909,000 hectares of land. More than 31,533 km of the country’s road network, 2,000 bridges and culverts have been damaged to varying degrees. Some 8,700 buildings of educational institutions have been damaged completely or partially.
A total of 51,158 people, affected by the floods, took refuge in 141 shelter centres.
