Arrest Lalit Modi: Shiv Sena

By IANS,

Mumbai: A senior Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra legislator Subhash Desai Tuesday demanded the arrest of suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi.

Desai also demanded that Modi should be made to undergo a narco-analysis test which would bring out the truth behind the controversy plaguing the IPL Twenty20 cricket tournament.

“We shall write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking Modi’s arrest and a narco-analysis test on him to unearth all facts of financial irregularities in IPL,” Desai told reporters here Tuesday evening.

Desai said Maharashtra ministers who were part of a meeting in which the issue of entertainment duty (ED) waiver for IPL was discussed should be made to compensate for the losses incurred by the state.

Last week, the Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) said that the Maharashtra government lost Rs.4.99 crore by not levying ED on IPL 2008.

Desai has challenged the issue of the state government failing to levy ED on IPL in a public interest litigation before the Bombay High Court.

The high court has directed the state government to file an affidavit in this regard by May 5.

Modi was suspended Sunday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India which has slapped him with a show-cause notice. BCCI vice president Chirayu Amin has been appointed as the new interim IPL commissioner.
