Ranchi: Even while the fate of the Shibu Soren-led government in Jharkhand hangs in balance, a meeting of the state cabinet, chaired by the chief minister, was held Monday and several key decisions taken.
The meeting was attended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
Jharkhand plunged into political crisis after Soren, who still retains his Lok Sabha seat, voted in favour of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on the cut motions introduced by the opposition April 27. The very next day, the BJP parliamentary board decided to withdraw its support to the Soren government but later put its decision on hold.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and BJP leaders met May 1 in New Delhi to sort out the differences but failed to came to any decision. However, Soren’s son, Hemant Soren Sunday claimed that the government would continue for now.
According to sources in the BJP, party leaders are weighing options to form a government in the state in consultation with its alliance partners. The sources also revealed that the BJP leaders have sought letters of support from all the JMM legislators.
