Vote against cut motion was not a mistake: Soren

By IANS,

Ranchi : Former Jharkhand chief minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren Thursday said that his vote for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on the cut motions in parliament, which led to the fall of his government, was “not a mistake”.

“It was not a mistake. I did what suited me at that time,” Soren said in Giridih to queries from reporters whether his vote was a mistake or a deliberate move. Soren resigned as chief minister May 30, when an angered Bharatiya Janata Party after a flip-flop of over 10 days finally withdrew its support from the JMM-BJP government May 24.

However, in a a letter to BJP president Nitin Gadkari April 29, Soren had said that it was a mistake to vote in favour of the UPA.

Soren also said that efforts would be made to form an alternative government in the state.

The JMM chief was in Giridih to appear before a fast track court in a 36-year-old double murder case, in which he is the lone surviving accused. Eight people were acquitted in 1986, and one died during the trial.
