Aligarh: Within 48 hours after the Kerala High Court stayed admissions for a month at Aligarh Muslim University’s Malappuram centre, the AMU Academic Council, in a special meeting today, approved the recommendations for starting BALLB and MBA courses at the Centres of Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Malappuram (Kerala) for the Session 2010-2011.
The courses were recommended by the Board of Studies of the Department of Law and Department of Business Administration respectively.
“The University stands committed to provide the required facilities to launch the above programmes. The University is closely in contact with the governments of Kerala and West Bengal to create the required infrastructure so that teaching be started in a best performing way,” said Dr Rahat Abrar, PRO, AMU.
On Monday, the Division Bench of Kerala High Court comprising Justices C N Ramachandran Nair and P S Gopinathan, while hearing a PIL filed by High Court lawyer K Janardha, stayed the admissions for a month at Malappuram centre.
The lawyer had argued that sufficient infrastructure is not in place at the AMU centre in Perinthalmanna. The HC has ordered that admissions be on hold for a month and that classes be started only after sufficient infrastructure is in place.
In today’s meeting, on the other hand, AMU Academic Council also approved the teaching and administrative posts and other infrastructure for running special centres at Murshidabad and Malappuram.
The University Academic Council has also approved the proposal for creating a “Directorate of Schools” from the Session 2010-2011.
