Mumbai : Led by a late surge in bluechip stocks, a benchmark index for Indian equities Thursday ended 276 points higher than its previous close.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,668.91 points, closed at 16,934.01 points (provisional), 276.12 points or 1.66 percent up from its previous close at 16,657.89 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty closed at 5,082.35 points, up 1.64 percent from its previous close.
Broader markets indices were also in the positive, with the BSE midcap index ending 1.15 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index 1.35 percent up.
Reliance Infra, Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors were among the top gainers.
