Bengaluru: Abdunnasir Ma’dani, chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Kerala, has been named the 31st accused in the Bengaluru serial blast of 2008. Six names including Ma’dani’s were added to the additional chargesheet submitted on Friday. Ma’dani is reported to have inspired and helped in the crime.
Twenty six persons were named in the primary chargesheet submitted in May 2009. Shuhaib alias Faisal, Sarfudheen, Thajudheeen, PB Sabir and Abdul Qadir are the other persons named in the additional chargesheet. The chargesheet also reportedly includes more evidence against Thadiyantavide Naseer and Shafas, who have already been named in the primary chargesheet. However, four of the persons newly named in the chargesheet are already under the custody of the Bengaluru police. Abdul Qadir, native of Veerajpeta in Kudak, and Ma’dani are the ones yet to be arrested.
Nine cases have been registered in connection with the nine blasts that rocked Bengaluru city on July 25, 2008. Chargesheet has been submitted against 32 persons so far in the case. The City police may approach the court to get a warrant on Ma’dani. However, reports suggest there are no evidences against Soofiya Ma’dani, wife of Abdunnasir Ma’dani. Evidence against Ma’dani was reportedly got from Naseer.
Meanwhile, Ma’dani last day said that he would cooperate if the police approached him with the arrest warrant since he was named in the chargesheet. He added that certain persons in the Intelligence Bureau were working against him and hence, the charge. He reiterated his innocence in the matter and said that he would deal with the case legally. Ma’dani will try for an anticipatory bail. He said that he had always respected the court proceedings and that the words of certain PDP members that they would prevent his arrest was purely an expression of pain and emotion.
Ma’dani recalled that he was innocent when accused in the Coimbatore blast case also. Things are happening according to a plan made earlier. He said it was sure he would be accused if a bomb blast took place anywhere. He expressed his readiness to suffer if terrorism would end by torturing him. ‘I am ready even for execution if that would end all problems’, he said. This would only help the anti-national forces to be strong and the waywardness of more youth. Central Minister Mullappalli Ramachandran is saying that the IB has no role, but he is not right, Ma’dani added.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party has decided to take to strong agitation against the moves to exile Ma’dani again through false cases. Party’s general secretary Gafoor Puthuppadi accused that certain officers of the Intelligence Bureau were siding with the moves against Ma’dani. The party would organize rallies and public functions all over the state from June 12 to 25 in protest against the efforts to exile Ma’dani. The protest programmes intend to convey the message that the arrest won’t be accepted, and not that the arrest would be prevented.
Gafoor Puthuppadi said that there were no evidences against Ma’dani in any terrorist activity in the country. He is under the protection of the state police for whole 24 hours since his release from jail on August 1, 2007. His and his wife’s mobile phones are always tapped. Ma’dani and the party have put strict regulations on visitors. It is purely baseless to say that Ma’dani was involved in crimes beyond all this. This anti-Ma’dani move is a way to tarnish the image of the party at a time when elections are approaching. The move to jail Ma’dani unjustly cannot be accepted. Patriots and the administration should not fail to see the danger in jailing Ma’dani who is a religious scholar and leader trying for the unity of Dalits, backward classes and minorities. Such acts will only be helpful for the anti-national forces to create feelings against the country and its systems as well as for the creation of new terrorists. Democratic secular Kerala should stand united against this, he urged.
In another development, the Kerala Mahall Imam Aikyavedi decided to protest against the conspiracy of the Intelligence Bureau and the Karnataka police to trap Ma’dani again. The state committee officials informed the decision of the organisation in a press conference in Kollam. They said that Ma’dani was carrying out peaceful public activism after his release from jail. Efforts to jail him again using foul stories will not be accepted. The organisation would hold propaganda campaigns in Kollam on June 15 and 16, followed y a public programme on 16th.
Ma’dani and wife Soofiya were questioned by the Karnataka police last day in Kochi. The police are camping in Kerala itself, according to reports. Ma’dani who has been undergoing treatment in the Thiruvananthapuram medical College Hospital returned home last day and the police are camping in Anvarsseri where he resides.
It has been only three years since the release of Ma’dani from the Coimbatore jail. Since then, he had supported the LDF and CPI (M) in elections. Now the CPI (M) and the state Chief Minister have openly taken a stand that Muslim and Christian communalism was increasing in the state. The CPI (M) also is strongly criticizing the Jamat e Islami which had supported it in earlier elections but has decided to contest in the up-coming three tier panchayat elections. The new moves adopted by the government and the CPI (M) are widely said as a way to appease the Hindu votes in the coming elections as the minorities have gone away from the party.
