Stop GDP growth talk, control inflation: BJP to PM

By IANS,

New Delhi : Expressing concern over India’s annual inflation that touched double digits at 10.16 percent in May, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to “stop talking about the GDP growth” and address the issue of inflation.

“It is shocking and unbelievable. The prime minister should stop talking about GDP growth. He should address the issue of inflation. We ask the prime minister to talk in terms of food inflation…in terms of wheat and rice…not in terms of growth. We have heard enough on growth,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here.

Driven by higher food and fuel prices, India’s annual inflation touched 10.16 percent in May from 9.59 percent a month before.

The annual inflation was 1.38 percent during May 2009.

“The concerns should be what affects the common man,” Rudy told reporters.
