Islamabad : At least 15 people were killed in a suicide attack in North West Frontier Province of Pakistan (NWFP) Monday, army spokesman Waheed Arshad said.
A suicide bomber was travelling in an auto rickshaw and detonated explosives near a police van in a crowded place at Nizaam Bazaar of Bannu district in NWFP, according to local TV channels.
Arshad was quoted by local TV channel Dawn News as saying that up to 15 people including 11 civilians and four policemen were killed in the attack.
Around 20 were injured in the blast and some of them are stated to be in critical condition, the Dawn News report said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The security situation in northwest Pakistan has worsened after local militants in North Waziristan scrapped a peace deal with the government in mid-July. As a result, attacks targeting security forces take place frequently in the area, leaving more than 300 people dead since mid-July.
