Rome: Italians who stashed money in off-shore bank accounts declared 97 billion euros in the last eight months since the government announced amnesty for tax evaders.
Under a tax-evasion amnesty between September 2009 and April this year, Italians have disclosed their hidden off-shore funds worth 97 billion euros, the Bank of Italy said in a statement Monday.
A total of 66.79 billion euros were held in Swiss bank accounts, of which 27.74 billion euros was sent back to Italy, it said, adding that 11.4 billion euros were declared between January and April this year, when the amnesty was extended.
