Addressing Congress councillors staging a protest outside MCD’s Town Hall office, Leader of Opposition in the MCD Jai Kishan Sharma alleged that the corporation was on the verge of bankruptcy due to faulty policies.

“The income from property tax, advertising and parking is very low as compared to the fixed targets. Thus, it has caused total imbalance in the income and expenditure of the corporation. The financial position of MCD is very grim resulting in no development projects. MCD is not even able to perform its routine duties,” Sharma claimed.

He also alleged that MCD’s functioning may adversely affect the Commonwealth Games.

“Commonwealth Games projects are still lagging behind even after receiving Rs.940 crore from the Delhi government. Sixty percent of the arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission has not been paid to the employees,” Sharma said, demanding re-elections to the civic body.
