Scolded by teacher, student jumps from school building

Lucknow: A class 11 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district Wednesday jumped from the second floor of his school building after allegedly being scolded by his teacher, police said.

Rakesh Kumar Rathore, 16, who is enrolled with the Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Urai town in the district, some 200 km from Lucknow, suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a hospital.

“The student’s father has registered a written compliant with us. The father has alleged that one of the teachers at the school used to scold his son unnecessarily every time and therefore his son attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor today (Wednesday),” police inspector M.P. Tiwari told reporters.

“On the complaint filed by the student’s father, we have initiated an enquiry into the case. The student has suffered serious injuries in his legs and waist in the incident,” he added.
