Pune: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will be honoured with the 28th Lokmanya Tilak award in Pune Aug 1 – the 89th death anniversary of the freedom fighter.
The award was started by the Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust, which is now managed by 57-year-old Deepak Tilak, the great grandson of Lokmanya Tilak.
“The award is bestowed every year on a person who has striven for the well being and the progress of the society and the nation. Sheila Dikshit has championed many causes in various capacities. She has brought about development in Delhi by starting the Metro and making all efforts to make the capital pollution free,” Tilak said.
Former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee have won the award in the past.
The award ceremony, which will be held at the Tilak Smarak Mandir here, will be presided over by Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
