Sensex at day’s high

Mumbai : A benchmark index for Indian equities Friday rose to its intra-day high in noon trade Friday with Asian cues remaining steady.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened higher at 18,080.29 points and was ruling 18,220.65 points, 146.75 points or 0.81 percent up from its previous close at 18,073.9 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading 0.9 percent higher at 5,465.4 points.

Broader markets were also doing well with the BSE midcap index ruling 1.13 percent up and the BSE smallcap index trading 1.27 percent higher.

Other Asian markets were trading steady as positive earnings soothed concerns over the global economic recovery.

Japanese Nikkei rose 0.44 percent to close at 9,253.46 points while the Chinese Shanghai Composite index was trading 0.88 percent up at 2,598.23 points.

However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell slightly to rule a modest 0.07 percent up at 21,120.46 points.

Overnight, the European markets recovered slightly with traders buying stocks after the recent slide but at Wall Street the benchmark indices closed lower for the third day over disappointing jobless claims data.
