Berlin : A Lufthansa cargo plane which crashed at Riyadh’s international airport late last month, was reportedly carrying weapons for Saudi Arabia and unspecified materials for the US military, the weekly news magazine Der Spiegel said Saturday.
It cited witnesses at Frankfurt airport as saying that machine guns bound for Saudi Arabia were loaded on the plane which was on its way from Frankfurt to Hong Kong via Riyadh and Sharjah.
The report did not say from where these machine guns originated.
The MD-11 freighter which was carrying an 80-ton load when it crashed in Ryadh on July 27, had also highly inflammable chemicals on board, according to Der Spiegel.
Saudi Arabia remains one of Germany’s major arms customer, outside NATO and the European Union.
