Pune : India’s Pankaj Advani went down to Englishman Mike Russell in the final of the time format of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation World Billiards Championships here Monday.
Advani conceded his title with nine-time world champion Russell showing hot form to beat the Indian in six straight frames –(151(129)-129, 151(145)-00, 151-(128)-29, 150(92)-20, 151(149)-09, 151(83)-125(80)) — in two hours and 30 mins.
Pankaj earlier scored a nail-biting 5-4 (15-152(140), 115(134)-151(88), 150(77)-106, 150-99, 91-151(95), 40-152, 150(120)-99, 152(77)-57, 152-111) win over Peter Gilchrist of Singapore in the semi-final but could not handle the onslaught of Russell who registered a 5-2 (152(145)-00, 27-150(143), 16-151(137), 152(152)-00, 151(73)-36, 150(90)-07, 152(96)-50) win over Geet Sethi in the other semi-final.
Russell received a prize money cheque of $2,000 from Real Value Advertisers from Dr P.D Patil, Chancellor DY Patil Vidyapeeth Pune, the venue for the championship.
