Congress unlikely to take action against Jaganmohan

New Delhi : The Congress is unlikely to take any action against party MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy for continuing his ‘Odarpu’ yatra’ despite the leadership’s advice to make the memorial functions of his father collective party events, party sources said Tuesday.

Congress sources said that the party is keen to be patient with Jaganmohan as the sudden death of his father – then Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy – in a helicopter crash was an emotional issue for him.

“His behaviour has not been normal. His father’s accidental death is an emotional issue for him. It is also a loss for the party. The party said that it (yatra) should not have been done individually,” the sources said.

They said that Jaganmohan had been “misguided” to go ahead with the yatra in a belief that it will establish his pre-eminence as a leader in the state.

“We would not want to harm him or hurt him. That is why the party has decided to be patient (on the issue),” the leaders added.

Though Jagan has been maintaining that the yatra was his personal obligation, Congress had sent feelers that party legislators should keep away so as to prevent any show of group loyalties in the state which has returned the party to power in the last two assembly polls and has yielded it a rich haul of seats in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
