Protesters attack government building in Srinagar

Srinagar: Angry mob torched a building of chief engineer of the Power Development Department (PDD) near Exhibition crossing here today (11th September), police said.

Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and prevented the fire from spreading.

Sources told Agence India Press that, a group of youths had set ablaze a government building housing CBI office. Police swung into action and resorted to aerial firing. Eye-witnesses said dozens of bullets were fired in air to quell the
mob.

Earlier in the day, near Hazratbal, police fired in the air to disperse a mob after they set ablaze a police post and attacked a police gypsy. No casualties were reported.

What triggered the attack is not known, but there was tension in the Hazratbal area as huge crowd had gathered. (More details are awaited)
