Milli Forum gears up for Jharkhand panchayat election

Ranchi: The United Milli Forum (UMF), Jharkhand organized a day-long state level workshop on October 3 to train its district office bearers for upcoming panchayat election, likely to be held in the month of December this year.

UMF convenor Dr. Hasan Raza, in his presidential remarks, said: “Muslims should come out of broker politics and join the real political struggle.” “And upcoming panchayat election is the best opportunity for that”, he added. UMF will be holding such workshops at district and block level by the end of this month, he informed. It can be noted here that, the people of Jharkhand has not seen the Panchayat election since more than three decades. With the first workshop on the subject, the UMF has geared up for the local body poll.

Earlier inaugurating the workshop Vishwa Nath Bagi, national organising secretary of Samajwadi Jan Parishad said, “If we really want to strengthen the democratic process at grass root level, we have to focus on panchayat and local bodies.” “It will also lead to people’s empowerment,” he added. Joining him, women rights activist Dr. Kiran said, “Until we ensure the participation of women in democratic process, the democracy will be unreal”. Social Activist Balram said, “We have to speed up our movement otherwise mainstream political parties will snatch the space.” Senior Journalist and Activist, Sudhir Pal dwelt the different aspect related to Jharkhand Panchayat Act and Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act.

Activist Shailendra said, “The election of Panchyat should not be allowed to delay further at any cost”. He was seconded by Dr. Hasan Raza.
