Sensex slips further in noon trade

Mumbai : A benchmark index of Indian equities Friday slipped further in noon trade, having started on a weak note, as consolidation firmly seemed to gain traction across the market.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,297.58 points, was ruling around noon at 20,206.59 points, down 108.73 points or 0.54 percent from its previous close at 20,315.32 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 6,093.15 points, down 0.44 percent.

Broader markets were also in the red with the BSE midcap trading 0.51 percent down and the BSE smallcap index 0.37 percent lower.

The market breadth was negative with 1,099 stocks advancing, 1,762 declining and 100 remaining unchanged.

Other Asian markets were ruling mixed ahead of the release of US non-farm payroll data — an indication of the state of the world’s largest economy.

The Japan’s Nikkei lost 0.99 percent and closed at 9,588.88 points.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was ruling flat 22,884.32 points, while the Shangahi Composite index which was close since past few days zoomed over 3 percent at 2,738.74 points.
