The list, however, does not contain any prominent separatist leaders who had been detained under the PSA here during the last four months of unrest in which 109 people lost their lives.

The decision to release the 12 after reviewing their cases is part of the 8-point package announced by union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in consultation with the state government.

“On the basis of recommendations of the review committee, the government today (Saturday) decided temporary release of 12 PSA detenus lodged in different jails. As per the order, the terms and conditions have been communicated to the detenus accordingly,” a government release here said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said here earlier this week that the review committee would soon meet to decide on the release of persons held under the PSA.

The 12 to be released belong to Srinagar and other districts of the Valley.
