Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government Monday announced a cash reward of Rs.35 lakh for shooter Vijay Kumar Sharma for winning three gold and one silver medals in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
“Sharma’s achievements have brought laurels to the state. He will be rewarded Rs.35 lakh for winning four medals in the Games,” said an official statement, quoting Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
Sharma, who is serving in the Indian Army, belongs to Harsour village in Hamirpur district in the state.
The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a reward of Rs.10 lakh to any of its sportspersons on winning the gold medal in an international event. The silver medallist will be paid Rs.5 lakh while the bronze medallist will receive Rs.3 lakh.
