Lucknow : Upset after her husband refused to give money for treatment of their ailing children, a woman set herself and her two children on fire in their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, police said Saturday.
Manju (28) set herself on fire along with her one-year-old daughter Renu and four-year-old son Shivam late Friday evening in her one-room house in the Shahbad village, some 60 km from here.
Police said Manju’s two kids were down with fever for the last several days.
“Manju had asked her husband Hori Lal several times to get the kids treated. However, Hori Lal did not pay attention. It appears that failing in her attempts to arrange money, the woman killed herself along with her children,” police inspector Shagir Ahmad told reporters in Unnao.
Police arrested Hori Lal who has been charged with abetment of suicide.
