After being notified by doctors group People for Better Treatment president Kunal Saha, Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh said it will take “disciplinary action” against Desai, a fellow of the college (FRCS).

“The Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has taken the view that a disciplinary hearing be undertaken to consider the college action with regard to Dr Desai,” its Honorary Secretary Michael Lavelle-Jones said in a letter to Saha.

“I confirm that this process is underway and that the matter will be carefully addressed,” Jones said.

Desai was arrested by CBI on April 23 for taking Rs.2 crore bribe for giving recognition to a Punjab based medical college.

Following this, the MCI was replaced by a Board of Governors appointed by the central government May 15.

Desai’s medical license was recently suspended by the MCI as he was planning to go to Canada to attend a World Medical Council meet. He however still remains the chief of Gujarat Medical Council.
