Sir Syed Week celebrated in Lucknow

Lucknow: The ‘Sir Syed Week’ celebrations culminated with prize distribution and ghazal performance by Ustad Sakhawat Khan here on Sunday. The Sir Syed Week was organised by Lucknow unit of AMU Old Boys Association.

On Sunday, the winners of various literary activities organised in the past week were felicitated at a function organised at National Degree College. The prize distribution ceremony was followed by ghazal performance by Ustad Sakhawat Khan (Rampur). The function was graced by former Chief Secretary, Shambhunath, Vice-Chancellor, Urdu Arbi Farsi University, Anis Ansari, fashion designer Asma Hussain, Sharib Rudaulvi, Prof Manzoor Ahmed and several other dignitaries. The programme culminated with University Song followed by the national song.

Earlier, as part of the week long celebrations, an essay competition was organised at Amiruddaula Islamia College on the topic ‘Sir Syed and his teachings’. A drawing competition for the disabled children was also held at Chetna Sansthan where handicapped children took part in the competition. Several old boys as Dr Waqas Aziz Kidwai (Rida Nursing Home), Dr Salman Khalid (Fehmina Hospital), Dr Mehdi Hasan held free medical check-up camp for poor patients.

Seminar to highlight the role of Sir Syed Ahmed was also organised at National Degree College which was addressed by former Lucknow University (LU) Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof Roop Rekha Verma, Zafaryab Jilani and others.
