New Delhi : Allegations made by two Tihar Jail inmates that they were asked to kill Commonwealth Games (CWG) officials lodged there are “incorrect”, the prison’s director general, Neeraj Kumar, said Wednesday.
“All allegations by the jail inmates are incorrect. These are convicted people involved in heinous crimes. We wanted to break the gang (they had formed) so we shifted them to a high security prison,” Kumar told reporters here.
Prisoners Amit and Nishant had told a city court Tuesday that jail authorities provided them with knife and pistol to kill CWG officials.
According to jail authorities, the duo was shifted from jail number 4 to the high security ward of jail number 3 to break the gang they had formed.
“They weren’t happy with the idea and told the court that they were asked to kill the CWG officials,” a police officer said.
Three former CWG officials — Sanjay Mahendroo, T.S. Darbari and M. Jayachandran — are presently in Tihar jail for their alleged involvement in the October 2009 Queen’s Baton Relay scam.
