Amritsar : Thirtyfour trucks loaded with onions Thursday reached India as imports from Pakistan continued for the third successive day to check soaring prices in the country, officials said.
A total of 98 truckloads of onions arrived here through the Attari-Wagah border Tuesday and Wednesday.
With onion prices touching Rs.100 a kilo in some parts of the country earlier in the week, Indian traders are buying the vegetable from Pakistan at Rs.300-350 a quintal.
“Today 34 trucks reached Amritsar. We have sent them to traders in Punjab and New Delhi. We are expecting 40-50 trucks tomorrow,” importer Rajdeep Uppal, vice-president of the Amritsar Exports and Imports Chamber, told IANS.
Importers are looking to buy over 1,000 tonnes of onions from Pakistan.
